The Journey Has Never Tasted So Sweet

Decorating a home is a journey, particularly when you're in a relationship and live with your significant other. As with all couples, when Mike moved into my apartment, we each had our own set of furniture, our own preferences and our own color schemes. There was an immediate interior decorating negotiation period: "I have had this since I was fifteen!" "Yes, and it's ugly and clashes with the sofa! We're not putting it up." We spent our entire first year in the apt purging pieces of furniture we had previously been attached to in order to buy new pieces together. It was a game of compromise, but after 6+ years together, our design preferences have finally aligned! We grew as individuals but our taste level as a couple also grew together. In the early years we were attached to an industrial, heavy aesthetic, but now we're moving on! We're making every effort to lighten up our lives and redecorate in a minimal, mid-century modern look. It'll take some time, but that's where the fun comes in! We're hunting for pieces together! To help kick off our re-decorating journey, I repainted the accent wall in the bedroom from navy to a jewel-tone green, and have partnered with Häagen-Dazs®️ Ice Cream to reward myself for all the little design accomplishments along the way! Cuz why not?! We all deserve sweet treats to celebrate small wins. ;P
I was a visual merchandiser for a major retail brand for over ten years, so I'm pretty savvy when it comes to painting a wall. That doesn't make it any less tedious though!! What better way to reward myself for finishing the task than Häagen-Dazs ice cream? I had stopped by my local Walgreens to pick up a few flavors while on my way to get supplies. The coffee flavor is my favorite, so I had a bowl while I was waiting for the paint to dry!
I'm pretty passionate (and particular) about our design choices and so is Häagen-Dazs. For 56 years, they have stuck to their core beliefs and passion for creating the world's best ice cream. All of their items contain no artificial flavors or colors and many of them, including the coffee flavor, only have 5 ingredients (milk, egg, cream, sugar, coffee).

Mike and I found these prints on our recent trip to Plum Island, Massachusetts. They're photographs of feathers printed onto handmade paper. Something about them felt light and unique. I hammered nails into the wall and then used little magnets to 'hang' them. It's a great alternative to a frame and feels a little more crafty. I also love them because of the story behind where they came from. Some of my favorite things around the apartment are from our travels together. I'm always on the hunt when we go somewhere now!
P.S. This was the next day after the paint was dry and I was resetting the bedroom, so I felt totally justified enjoying another Häagen-Dazs treat. lol. And the Vanilla Milk Chocolate Almond Bars are EVERYTHING. ;P
