Spring Connecticut Getaway

I'll be honest, I love to gamble. 

A game of blackjack is fun time, but what I wasn't expecting when we visited Foxwoods Resort Casino last weekend was how perfect it is as a relaxing spa retreat! Mike isn't a big gambler, so we spent the weekend unwinding at the spa, eating incredible food, and drinking amazing wine. It was everything I want in a getaway.  

We stayed in a suite in the Fox Tower, the tallest of the resort's four hotels. It has incredible, sweeping views of the forest and lake behind the property and is so serene and beautiful! Naturally, we built a pillow fort and ordered room service breakfast, cuz how could you not?! I'd love to come back in the summer when all the trees are bright green and we can go hiking a bit. There are a ton of cute New England towns nearby we could explore during the day.

Every time we're at an outlet, we stock up on Calvin Klein underwear. I feel like everyone does this, right? Foxwoods has the Tanger Outlets, which have over 80 name brand stores (including my favorite, Cinnabon).

After our deep tissue massages, we had dinner at VUE24, where we gorged on lamb, crab, pasta, ribs and cake (before rolling ourselves out). Surprisingly, the sommelier suggested we do by-the-glass wine pairings rather than order a bottle. Boy, was he right! He sent over perfect pairings and we ended our meal with a fantastic smokey scotch. We snapped pics of the bottles throughout so we could find them on our own. 

Later that night, we found ourselves at David Burke Prime (another great celebrity-owned restaurant on property). If you stop in, order the "Clothesline Bacon"! It's extra-thick candied bacon covered in a black pepper maple glaze. The clotheslines comes out with smoking herbs underneath it. It's killer. The restaurant also has a two story wine cellar with a Chihuly blown glass chandelier at the top, so they clearly know what they're doing.  

So, while we did not gamble at the Casino, I can not overstate how much fun we had eating, drinking, shopping and spa-ing(?). A huge thank you to Foxwoods for hosting us on our little Spring Getaway!! If you live in New York or anywhere nearby, it's definitely worth the drive. ;)
