Fit for Every Man with Bonobos

Every man needs an impeccably tailored suit. It’s fundamental!
I’m a pretty casual guy, but there are a ton of occasions where I need a suit: weddings, cocktail events, and date night. I’ll often dress it down with a pair of sneakers and a button down oxford (rather than a dress shirt), but a suit makes a statement. It shows that you take the event seriously and know the importance of putting your best foot forward. If I worked in an office, it would be an obvious choice for any important meeting.
I’ll skip over talking about your standard solid navy and grey suit. I’m assuming you have one already, and if you don’t, those are the perfect colors to start your suiting collection! They’re a lot more versatile than black and are the sartorial workhorses in your closet.
It’s almost spring, so I wanted to find something with a bit more character! This navy windowpane suit is the “Jetsetter Stretch Suit” from Bonobos. They have an incredibly wide range of suiting, from tuxedos to chambray, and this wool suit has the tiniest bit of stretch, so it’s super comfortable. I love how modern the windowpane feels. Because of how it’s tailored, it feels fresh and young.
When I ordered this suit, I knew Bonobos was known for having a “fit for every man”. All of their blazers, pants and shirts come in different fit options (Slim, Standard and Athletic), so there are literally over 200 different combinations of fit. If you have a broad torso and narrow legs, you can match an Athletic blazer with Slim trousers and create the perfect suit. It’s kind of genius, and really sets Bonobos apart from other suiting companies who only offer one fit option in each suit.
What I didn’t know though, was just how perfectly tailored my selection would be! I don’t say this lightly: this suit fits better than my wedding suit, which was a made-to-measure custom suit.
I ordered the Slim windowpane blazer and matching Slim trouser. I have kind of a string bean body, so my fit should be consistent between the top and bottom. I didn’t have to tailor my blazer AT ALL. It was perfect, straight off the rack. I have never experienced that with a suit before. My blazers usually need minor alterations, not not this one. All of Bonobos’ suit pants arrive unhemmed, with a 37” inseam, so you can take them to your local tailor and have them finished off to the appropriate length. That’s the only alteration I needed though!
To say I’m hooked would be an understatement. Now that I know my fit combination, I have a running list of all the other Bonobos suits I want. They’re so easy!

When it comes to styling a novelty suit like this, I typically let the suit do the talking. I would consider wearing a striped sweater under a windowpane, but would avoid plaid and checkered shirts completely. You don’t want too much going on. I styled it with a pink linen sweater to brighten it up for spring, but the white shirt would be classic on it’s own.
I’m planning to wear these pieces separately too. The trousers will be perfect with a brown suede biker jacket and I can wear the blazer with grey trousers for a night out.
